A Good Life . . .

Air-bound

We made it to our annual Clippers Game tonight.  While this usually means we spent the evening at the bouncy house at the Clippers game, we actually saw a few innings of the game (including two home runs)!  We were joined once again by Audrey's good friend Cate, and this was Amelia's first baseball game. 

It was an evening filled with indulgent food, mascot visits . . .

and did I mention the bouncy house?  Because these girls were like jumping beans . . .

And yes, Amelia's first baseball game was a hit!  She actually asked a number of time to go back to watch the game!  And when you ask her what her part of the game was, she consistently replies, "They throwed the ball and I clapped!"

I know this one is blurry, but I have to share it.  Amelia is the queen of bottom drops. She does them everywhere (including the pool)!

What a fun tradition!  Next year, I'll get seats in the shade and I'm betting that Amelia will watch at least half of the game . . . in between bottom drops, ice cream, and mascot visits.

Sign No. 2 - Hello Kitchen

Sign number two that our house has been taken over by a two year old girl and a four year old girl (um, I mean that there are two little girls in our house) . . . Hello Kitty has made an appearance in the kitchen.  I think I've gracefully surrendered our house to the reality of life with children.  But I must admit that I hope Hello Kitty's stay is brief.

Sign No. 1 - Naked Barbies

I shared a series of posts over two years ago about the signs that there was a toddler in the house.   Now I'd like to share a few signs that there are two little girls in our house.  And, let's start with the state of the barbies . . . . more often than not, they are totally naked.  Why is that?

Audrey - "I really don't know what to do with all of this stuff!"

Audrey was distressed tonight and in the mood to talk about it.  Shortly after leaving her room, I heard the pitter-patter of feet (actually, it was more like her trademark stomp that she makes to alert us to the fact that she's getting out of her bed).  I met her on the stairs and she declared, "Mommy, I'm really upset  . . . because you guys don't let me do the things I want to do."  She went on to explain, "I want to do things by myself."  

She started private swimming lessons this week folks, and I fear we may have opened pandora's box.  She explained that she likes it when it's just her and the teacher, "it's calmer that way."  And that, is hard to refute.  Of course it's calmer, but I don't have the time to seek out private instructors for everything she wants to do and I likely don't want to see the price tag that would accompany such private instructors.  In addition, that chaos she's referring to . . . well, it's life.  

Of course I refrained from saying any of that.  And I mostly just let her talk.  At one point she said, "Maybe we could visit all of the countries in the world and find a teacher or a student that could teach me how to dance.  That's a great idea, isn't it?"  Yes, it is.  The world is definitely your oyster, Audrey Ruth.  Now please go to sleep.

 

Not quite a baby . . .

My baby isn't much of a baby any more.  I know that's not news, but it's hit me fairly hard recently.  

Note the purse hanging from her arm.  She carried it all around the zoo on Saturday.  And she insisted on carrying her sunscreen, her money, and her sunglasses (when she wasn't wearing them or hadn't hung them from her shirt) in HER purse.   My purse was just for overflow.  Sigh.  Clearly I'm still needed, but Amelia's "independence" is so bitter sweet.  On the "plus" side, it's still countered by daily (and David will tell you hourly) protests of "I want my Mommy!"
